Our Path to Becoming a Top 21 Block Producer for the Telos Chain of EOS.IO
Since inception, we always expected to launch on the Ethereum blockchain. It was the most popular and widely used blockchain for smart contracts and seemed like a good fit.
It wasn’t. So we decided to move on.
We believe this was one of the best decisions we’ve made for the future of Qubicles. In Ethereum’s current state 12 months later, there has been no improvements while other chains have launched and/or have had incremental upgrades. After some extensive research, we settled on EOS.IO as the blockchain of choice for all our current and future dApp development initiatives.
Over the past 8 months, we have mastered the art of EOS.IO. During that time, we followed the launch of EOS very closely and participated in its launch by setting up our own nodes and founding a local EOS community called EOS Miami. The first chain of EOS.IO, called the EOS Mainnet, was plagued with issues commonly found when launching a new products. However, many of these issues made it difficult for us to proceed with building our alpha version of Qubicles on EOS Mainnet. Additionally, issues with the lack of official on-chain governance, the perception of centralization caused by the EOS Core Arbitration Forum (ECAF), and a majority of the Top 21 block producers being determined not by average voters, but by less than a handful of whale accounts caused us major concern.
In July 2018, nearly two months after the launch of the first EOS.IO chain, we joined a team of like-minded EOS block producers and other volunteers to launch the second chain of EOS.IO, the Telos Blockchain Network. In Telos, we envisioned an EOS.IO chain that had the most even distribution of the token’s supply, where resources for RAM, CPU, and NET were affordable for the smallest to the largest of dApps, and on-chain governance were present for arbitration, worker proposals and ratification of core network documents.
Our CEO, Marlon Williams, became the co-chair of Telos’ core development team along with Peter Bue at GoodBlock.io, and spearheaded numerous efforts and code enhancements to EOS.IO, eosjs, and related frameworks to help launch the Telos network. Additionally, we are the creators of Sqrl, the official wallet for the Telos Blockchain Network that was the first truly multi-chain wallet for EOS.IO. Finally, through our EOS Miami efforts we were voted as one of the Top 21 block producers of the Telos Blockchain Network.
With a lot of the groundwork established in 2018, 2019 is off to a great start and we look forward to continuing the work necessary to transform the customer service, sales and support industries via blockchain technology.
We have several initiatives under development for Qubicles, but be on the lookout for additional announcements over the next 30 days, including:
- On New Year’s Day, we announced our Qubicles Migration Assistant to help all Ethereum holders migrate to the Telos chain of EOS.IO
- We have recently been listed on an exchange, with several more in the works, and will provide details once prepared
- We are creating a “class” of QBE holders for everyone migrating from Ethereum. This class will begin receiving dividend payments in the form of TLOS tokens on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis
- An alpha version of Qubicles.io and Qubicles University is still under development and will be available in early 2019
Happy New Year!
